My 12 Week Year… and other helpful ideas I stole from the greats

Going to try to utilize substack more for blogging. Maybe this can be more raw, unfiltered thoughts.

So I’m doing “The 12 Week Year” with the Women of San Antonio Entrepreneur group and I’m actually really enjoying it! I had the thought that “I’m not really a goal-setting” - meaning, “I don’t think in terms of Q1, Q2, etc.”

And once I heard that you don’t necessarily create “goals” like “increase revenue by X%” because that’s out of your control, but you create steps like “call 5 leads a day, etc.” because that’s in your control.

But the 12 week year marries the two together really nicely! Basically you start out with an overarching goal and then you break it down into what they call “tactics” for the week.

For those who are curious, my 12 week goals are:

Business - Land one ideal whole-home, true-to-the-method KonMari client (signed and deposit paid).

Personal - Finalize flooring choice and hire a contractor to begin installation for downstairs floors.

For the business goal, one of my tactics for the week was to create a blog post on my website. I just realized it was on my website, not substack. So eventually I guess I’ll need to post this on my website too. But hey, Substack seems like a decent start.

An interesting back story about my personal goal. Last year, I had written that I wanted to get our flooring done but the year went by, and no flooring! Sheesh. Hopefully, this 12 week year stuff helps me actually get concrete steps in. I can already sense the motivation!

Speaking of motivation, I’ve lately revisited Gretchen Rubin’s 4 Tendencies. The interesting thing is that she and Cas from Clutterbug did a combo of Organizing styles and 4 Tendencies. I thought it was super interesting!

I am an Upholder (meets inner and outer expectations) and a Ladybug (likes closed storage but can have broad categories - doesn’t need to micro-organize).

All these great minds! I love learning.

Now let’s hear from you. Are you a “goal-setter type” and do you have any framework to do it?

Do you know your 4 tendency motivation or Clutterbug organization style and how do you see it in your life?

I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
